Lalji Bhai evolved as a friendly neighbourhood Gujarati Superhero, during my education in Gujarat. The Superhero movie franchise saw an exponential rise around the same time, inspiring me to look in to my immediate surroundings.

Here you go moasa, Translation for all those who are not conversant with the devanagari script: "I'm not a masked messiah/saviour. Neither do I have a colourful costume nor do I have any super-powers. I'm your friendly neighbourhood superhero who likes to gorge on roasted/mashed aubergine/eggplant/brinjal and 'sev'-tomato with 'khichdi' ". ('sev'-tomato is a typical Gujarati dish and 'khichdi' is a rice preparation)
